A couple of issues with my common fuel sump. First up the hose going from the Holy hydromat filter to the main fuel line feeding the engine.

I have a carefully made braded hose and fittings all working perfectly. Except that hose was not made to be submersed in a fuel tank. In time the external wrapping to the internal PTFE 3/8″ inner hose might degrade. Any bits of metal would have been stopped by the filter but that is hardly a reason to leave it in! I just didn’t think of this possible failure mode when I put the hose in.

So that fuel line as you see above had to come out and be replaced by the one below it in the middle. This PTFE hose is especially made to go in car petrol tanks. I also went to some trouble to crimp stainless steel fittings onto the aluminium AN-6 connectors. Now, the the third hose, also PTFE…..

You can see above I have connected that hose to the outlet on the left that was previously just open. Next to that is my optical fuel sensor for the low sump warning. I think when the fuel returned right next to it it was cavitating or making a few bubbles and setting off the warning. It was also pretty dumb of me to put those two so close together. That made the external plumbing really hard.

Anyway I hope the return fuel going low to the sump will be my solution to the false warnings.

Of course I had to make a new cork gasket.

All back together now and ready for the next flight.
