I worked well into the night on this so I don’t know how long it took. I just wanted these things in! I still had the HF antenna wire coming down from the top of the wing as they go up and back as a folded dipole. Anyway the second half of the wire trough had to be a lot deeper to allow for both antenna wires.
Pic one shows lots of careful routing and dremel work. I decided to make a very slight inlay for the copper antenna tape. The idea being that its better to fill a small area than add to the entire winglet if the tape was slightly proud. This was mainly with files after a light brush with the dremel. I still needed to sort of ramp into it to allow for the height of the solder where the coax wires go.
Pic 2 show how I’m holding the tapes with a bit of blue foam pined in place. I love pins. I did first spend quite a while with very dry micro potting the wires and putting enough on to hold everything down. The troughs are lined on the bottoms and then the wires pushed in and then more micro on top. I’ll give it a roughen up after cure and then add more micro later. Fiddly work but easier now than later. Oh and I did check that they were OK with the multi-meter before and after they went in.
Pic 3 shows I’m doing both winglets at once. Getting closer to skinning ’em.
Not so pretty for the wire runs
Acupuncture without the pain
Both winglets ‘antenned’
