This also took a few days as each one hour job seems to.. The plans have you make a template that goes on the inside or curved side of the winglet and lines up with the bottom. Yet the template doesn’t fit there, its a perfect fit for the outside of the winglet! This stuff makes me write lots of emails, drive to the airport to look at the flying plane to recheck I haven’t got winglet sides mixed and then more emails.
It seems you just need to make the winglet fit the wing… so I made a female template out of foam just to check and all was good before cutting anything. I decided to use the template as you see in pic 1 on the outside or wrong side where it fitted and then use a square to take that line to the inside where it meets the wing as you see in pic 2.
That worked out and the winglet fits with the minimum material removed ..which was my backup if it didn’t fit. i.e. least harm. Looks like I’ve found another minor plans glitch that everyone else seems to gloss over.
Lots of fun with files and being really careful around the antennas, both my VHF and HF dipole. I was pretty keen to remove the same amount of material on both winglets so that in theory they will end up the same height and size on the wings. I checked and it looked ok as you see in pic 3.
