I decided to make a removable nose that I could later use as a template to have a clear nose cone cast in perspex. The idea is to use the headlight mount also as the removable nose mount.
Pic one shows a small block of foam on the right that will fit into the headlight slot. The big block is just a lot of scraps glued together. Finally I added a little foam on the side of the NG31 bulkhead. It is just a little bit too narrow for the light so I’ve added a bit more, nearly all of which will get sanded off. Its just enough to give me a good flat surface to work with.
Pic 2 shows with the template the forward area I need to preserve.
Pic 3 is after a lot of work. The removable nose cone is in place and it is approaching the correct curves for the front of the plane.
Now I can see it… I’ll stop here and have a think if I want to make this nose another inch longer and a touch more pointed. It is very easy at this stage to add a little more foam and re shape. I’m thinking about a bit more air in front of the light for cooling purposes. Hmmmmm
