This is setting up the 4 tabs in position so that the main gear is in exactly the correct position…and its not easy. We got it done in the third session and after some time with the plans. The wheel axles go at BL-43 in the center of the gear leg with enough room left for the axle plate before the end of the leg. This point is 14.5″ from the rear of the spar. Got it?
We clamped a straight edge to the false firewall and added its thickness to our measurement (14.5″) and marked that point on a set square with a bit of tape. Then we dropped a plumb bob through the center of the leg and got our measured spot up from the set square and worked out where BL-45 was with a couple of rulers taped together up to the gear leg and ensured we had enough for the axle mounting. We also had the center of the gear bow marked and lined up with the fuselage centerline…oh and did I mention the fuselage was zeroed with a digital level first. It has about 1.5mm twist in it by the way. Not perfect but it will fly pretty straight.
Somehow the gear must also clear the side of the fuselage and it all be set in place. See the next log entry for this. Fheeewwww.
