This is a small mod I’ve been meaning to do for a while. Rudders need a gust lock when left outside and there is no provision for one. I saw this idea on James Redmon’s excellent Berkut site.
The idea is to inset a tube into the end of the rudder and then use a push pin as a lock.
Here is the pin installed. I cleaned it up later with some micro to seal the foam. I still need to make the fitting for the pin so it actually holds the rudder closed! That can be done anytime, I just wanted to tick this one off the list.
Yes, its a hole in the wing for a tie down. Not a lot to see eh? Per the CP’s as below, wing tie down instructions.
I drilled a hole in each wing and inserted and glued an aluminium tube in there. I spent quite a while ensuring the two holes were in the right place. I chickened out with the 3/8 hole to fit an AN4 and went down to AN3 size. This works on my flying plane, JZE, when I just tie a knot in some thin climbing rope and thread the other end through the hole to a ground tie down. Works a treat.
