The rear canopy fit WAS in almost perfect alignment. That is until the hinges went in, its now a bit out which would not have happened if it was my second oversized French canopy with extra wide hinges. It will be a simple fix will about 100grams of filler.
You can see the joggle in this pic and its worse on the other side.
I did the usual grind for the overhanging lip. As the canopy is slightly proud of the turtleback on the right side I can just run this lip over it for now and it will be a West 410 micro fill later.
I used four plies of BID 1.6″ wide and the usual peel ply.
It came out well. Better than the front lip which just shows that practice makes perfect, or at least can improve technique.
Here’s another view. My flying EZ, VH-JZE is in the pics (except for the ones going vertical which are a French aerobatic team)
Here’s the lip slightly trimmed with about a 1mm joggle to fix later. I was going to do it now but I think the strakes may have some glass overlaps on the spar so best to leave it until I know what I have to deal with. If I added any filler in that area I’d have to remove it to ensure a good glass to glass bond. It will be easily accessible with the strakes on later.
Time to sign off on the canopy for now. The last large main airframe component of this whole build is next.
THE STRAKES!
