Manual Reference: 25 - Paint Prep |
I’ve taken home the elevators, ailerons, rudders, wheel pants and baggage pods for prep and paint. They will go back to the hangar later for the final sanding and polishing process.
Its great to be back home at the bench despite the mess.
I spent some time checking the top profiles of the elevators and a lot of careful sanding.
The elevator bottoms required a couple of refills until I was happy with them.
Despite the ‘wrong’ ruler the elevators and everything else are confirmed nice and straight.
ELEVATOR WEIGHTS
Left prefill 2lbs 3.5oz (1006g) postfill 2lbs 4.1oz (1024g)
Right prefill 2lbs 4.4oz(1034g) postfill 2lbs 4.9oz (1048g)
As you can see from the weights, I haven’t added a lot of filler.
This is the magic green goo, alias 10-79 that I’ll be using on my aluminium parts to prevent corrosion. Its not pretty as I’m applying with a brush rather than spraying it. You need paint stripper to get it off so it must be the ‘right stuff’.
Not pretty.
Here we are after a final fill and sand and the green.
A couple of days later and I have my first coats of Altex Epoxy Barrier undercoat rolled on. The baggage pods are so big I’ll get to them after the other parts are done and I have more room.
