I spent a few hours cutting out the right tire exit area in the pant. By then I’d decided to have a go at lowering the pants on the outsides to cover more tire. In the last log you can see a bit of a wave formation cutout at the bottom. Not ideal. Maybe I could cover even more tire than the pants normally would?
If I can move the outer wall more parallel rather than curving in I will cover the beast. Step one was to make a clay model in place on the duct tape covered tire in the shape I needed.
Pic 1 shows how the pant now extends straight down at the red clay rather than sloping inwards. Pic 2 and I’ve just covered this in duct tape.
Pic 3 shows 2 ply of S glass in place over the clay mold and overlapping the cutout area where the clay is by 1″. I peel plied on top at the join. Yes S glass is a bit tougher than the usual E glass. I had a bit so we will see how it works. If I get the result I want, I’ll also layup S glass on the inside.
Tomorrow after the cure we will see how it all went.
