Over the last 4 days I’ve been fiddling with this Nosegear Box (NB). It took a couple of coats of micro and a bit of sanding to get a nice smooth form. I then hot glued it to a flat board and added clay to fill up a few small pin holes and to create a transition at the base.
Next up were several coats of wax and finally about 4 coats of PVA release. All done in Pic 1.
Pic 2 shows after three ply of BID, a little peel ply on the flat surfaces that I’ll use for mounting things and finally a few pins at the front so the glass stays put at that edge for the cure.
Pic 3 shows my form out of the blue foam mold which will not be used again. It came away cleanly but being an odd shape that curves in at the top it was never going to come out without a fight.
After some time trimming we have a fit in position. Its a touch wide at the IP end but this will work out OK. The wheel retracts into it with a small amount of clearance as planned. While I’m tempted to glass it in, I’ll wait until the gear doors are done, access from the top may be useful during that phase. I’ll do some nice photos of it in place then. 😉
