After spending an awful lot of time on my strut cover for the front wheel, I really wasn’t happy with it. A while ago I bought a sheet of Garolite G10, the same stuff the nose gear doors are made of for a replacement. With my tub in the turtle position yesterday and today got this long standing job done.

The old one is above. Very careful layups and detailed fitting went into it but it was just a bit too flexible and ‘soft’. When the wheel comes down at 100 knots there is a lot of air resistance here and I wanted something tougher.

Rather than foam and glass standoffs, I just used more G10. I have made an effort for weight reduction as you can see with the cutout above.

Many hours later on this very fiddly job and it fits well. It needs just a little flex too as other peoples strut covers have cracked and my solution is only one of many.

It all sits pretty well in line I hope for minimal airflow separation in flight.

There is a slight gap under the cover just forward of the foot which will be taken up when the bottom is finished and it all gets fared in to a delightful even curve. That’s the plan.
