A few small jobs over a couple of days here. Where the screws went through the hardpoints the ends had to be ground off. After that I filled the cavity with micro per plans and the next day sanded it all smooth.
I also spent some time cleaning up the last layup so the edges were crisp. Oh and I did manage to get flox cured in the hinges so that was fun and games getting them moving again.
The next job goes back to Chapter 5 some years ago where on advice I left out the longeron reinforcements. These are .4″ X .7″ strips of spruce that act as doublers. I omitted them as I was told that they were unneeded due to the large area of the side that I am NOT cutting out for baggage space. That’s all fair enough.
Now it’s time to bolt on the big heavy canopy those longerons were looking pretty skinny. So I made up a couple of pieces to add. I’m feeling better already about the screws through the longerons having a bit more meat in them when they are challenged by any side loads with the canopy open. Lets call them ‘comfort doublers’. Oh and just on the hinge side too.
I’ve floxed them on as you see below. A bit of flox in the slightly curved groove was also in order and I peel plied that area as well.
The last step was to just give the timber a coat of epoxy. I don’t feel I need to add glass here. I have my little bit extra just where the hinges are front and back. I’m happy.
