I thought the GPS antenna could go in an easy location. Some detailed reading of the install notes told me I needed the GA 35 antenna away from other antennas. I have a VOR antenna installed in the canard so I needed to put this one forward. There is no easy on a Long-EZ.
Its a hefty little unit so this far forward works for me.
More reading told me that for LNAV/VNAV approaches the antenna needs to be at zero degrees relative to the cruise angle. That seems odd as I’ll be on a 3 degrees slope for most approaches. Maybe the GPS compensates for that once you install at the zero.
I put the plane 2 degrees nose down so that once set, I could use zero at the antenna. In the cruise I should be good.
I used the bubble on this level to get my zero. Knowing I could achieve the angle I needed I went to work on a mount.
Flat plate, nut plates and rivets and aluminium angle is about the extent of my metal working knowledge so everything gets made out of these.
This is all glued in place with side angles and the GPS on a plate is removable. All good, move on.

Can this be installed sideways? The installation instructions say that the round end needs to point to the front.
