Over about a week prep began for the top skin. First up is to sort out the spar cap at FC1. Plenty of sanding and shaping and then the hardpoints were cleaned up and the edges re alodined. The top spar cap needed a bit of sanding too as it was slightly proud in a few places above the wing skin. I felt there was enough extra material in the .1″ width over plans to allow a bit off and still retain more than plans strength. The UNI tapes are also a higher spec.
I then routed the two channels for the rudder cable conduit and the HF antenna..or 18AWG wire if you prefer. Before that the fishtail at the TE had to go and that was an afternoons work in itself. The cable and nylaflow tube was installed on a bed of very stiff micro and held in place with pins.
Next day I removed the pins and added more stiff micro to fill the trough. A couple of days for cure and that was sanded down to the wing level. There was also plenty of very careful sanding at the spar cap edges and just a little blending work to the wing surface.
I’d already cut the glass to size for the top layup which took a day or so and prepared peel ply and ensure the wing is level… which it is. Maybe 25+ hours work although every entry just gets the 10 in this log. I still really don’t want to know. Its one job and one little win at a time.
