The Pants come on and off about 20 times today. Pic 1 shows how it sits now I have jacked the plaane off the floor so I can see the tire clearances more easily.
You might notice the top of the tire is more parallel with the ground than the slight toe in tire angle. Even though the instructions say to make the sides parallel with the tire it makes more sense to me if the wheel pant is in line with the airflow more. There is enough internal clearance for this tiny adjustment to be OK.
Pic 2 is after marking out the clearances with the pant fitted, I’ve reassembled it off the tire to get the gaps closer to ‘spec’. I’m thinking a half inch at the rear around 1/4″ at the front and sides as a minimum guide. Yes I’ve had them off and on a few times just cutting a little bit away each time.
Now for a decision. I didn’t go with 1.5″ wider pants but the penalty is what you see in pic 3. The cut out shows a bit extra tire. Now I can leave it as is, or I can build a sort of false wall onto the pant that goes straight down at the bottom rather than ‘curve in’ which needs the extra cutaway. Does it matter? Is it worth a two or three extra days work? Is it an aesthetics thing? Maybe you think the curves look good anyway?
I’m undecided. I’ll tackle the right tire and get it to this same stage and then decide. There is still reinforcements and a bonnet to do, but hey I’m happy I have the pants on…and they seem to be where they are supposed to be.
