I’ve lost more than a month build time after finding metal in the oil filter of my flying Long-EZ. Turned out to be piston pin plugs and I’m having a new set made as the stock ones are a bad fit. I’ll loose a few more weeks soon for the reassemble.
Back to spending some time to keep working on this first trial wings line up. Pic 1 shows those wing incident blocks and pic two has the level on the spar top. I need that at zero then the spar itself at 90 degrees and the wings at zero incidence.
I wanted this long trial lineup to understand what needs to be done and to ensure that my bolt holes are as near the correct place as possible and line up so I don’t miss the hard points! Another more critical consideration is ensuring I can get a socket into the wing bolt pockets. About .2″ the wrong way and it will be hard to do. So while the hard points carry the loads, they are wide enough for a bit of latitude, not so the bolt access. That said I’d like to be centered of course for everything.
As in pic three you can see I’m a little out on one side from dead center. I first thought to half the error but really its about being center in the wing and then checking that I’m not off to the side too much on the spar.
