This incidence block has to be straight and secure and before the wing is moved too much from the jigs, now is the time. I used the line on the FC1 block and the one at the end at the wing tip that is transferred from the wing templates. These give a level line.
This level needs to be the datum for when the wings are set up on the CS Spar and fuselage. I tried a few bits of wood but nothing seemed as straight as aluminium rectangles and one of my straight edges was too long anyway. Everything wants to line up at 0.01 degrees for some reason so I was happy with that as the wingtip came to the same place. As long as they are all the same that equals…straight!
I carefully secured and bondoed the block just at the start of the main wing inboard and used a bit of wood to keep strength up but bondo on the wing surface to a minimum. Having gone this far it was very easy to set up another block at the same time near the tip. This means I can watch for any twist in the wing. Hey why not? Of course if it does twist I’ll need an oven and a lot of clamps to straighten it out!
