This was over a week with several cure cycles. Pic 1 shows the seat top fitting nicely with the cutouts and so on. I just didn’t know how to fasten it and still have easy access to the area below.
Finally my good buddy Darren, who is on his second plane, suggested hinges from the back. While I had considered this, I needed a push to take the plunge and all the fancy fasteners seems not-quite-right or too heavy. …and I have hinges left over from the ailerons and rudders.
Pic 2 shows the floxed in rear mounting. There was so much flox that I haven’t bothered to put a couple of plies of BID over the top. Just no need. The top side however in Pic 3 definitely warranted BID after I had floxed those hinges on. I did the 4 X 2 ply pieces carefully on foil and peel plied them. Those hinges are not going anywhere.
Meanwhile I also spent a lot of time with the idea that the seat still needed to be fully removable. I bought some 3/32″ piano wire and tried a few things but with a nice bend of an inch or so as a handle it could be a crash hazard. Today I just went for a slightly elongated pin, a little red shrink-wrap to mark when the pins are engaged and a bit hanging out. All visible in pic 3.
Am I worried about the pins falling out? Not in a million years. They are tight and need locking pliers on the ends to remove them. So we have a hinged lid…. now how to fix it closed…!?!!
