So begins the canopy install. First up I realised that I hadn’t filled in the nut plate and bolt head areas on the side of the fuselage. That was just whipping up some micro and a quick sand after the cure.
After a huge amount of ‘thought experiments’ I’ve decided I need a ply of BID over the longerons and down about an inch and a half to where the curve stops. This will be a base for the foam I’m going to add.
As my canopy is really too wide I’m going to reduce the curve at the top of the fuselage to a flat edge. I’m not sure if the process is going to work out. If not I can remove it and try again. The fall back position is to get another canopy made at great expense.
Here’s my one ply of BID that I’ve done on foil. Otherwise it gets a bit out of control when you lay it down. I don’t like wetting glass out in place as it usually ends up wetter (heavier) that it needs to be.
After the glass was on I added my precut pieces of blue foam and microed them in place and added a few weights for an over night cure.
