Time or order the canopy, past time really, as I’m ready for it now. As with other ‘planning’ items I don’t really count this as build time but thought I’d document the process and have the measurements in this log. Yes it took all afternoon like most things.
To get the heights I added 2″ to the top of the rollover and used a rectangular piece of conduit as my spline. I want the highest part of the canopy to be 10″ forward of the rollover which is about where my head goes.
In pic 1 I’ve put a cowl at the rear to help with the end angle, a block of foam at the rollover and a piece of angle aluminium at the proposed canopy lip. I just added the spline and taped it all in place with gaffer. A lot easier than I thought it would be.
I jumped in the cockpit to confirm the heights and potential view using a more glider like profile at the sides which gives more shoulder room as well as better vision below the plane.
I liked it! I then took careful measurements ever 5″ which I have sent off to the USA canopy makers. That might be it for a while.
