Over a few days I have attached the lower winglets. These were CnC cut and came with the wings. I am going to cut most of them off but I’ve decided on a little bit down there to protect the rudders in case the plane ever tips backwards or I have a crosswind landing incident in Alaska or some place. While most people say cutting the lower winglets off makes no difference to flight characteristics, a few think the plane is more stable in some situations.
I used long scrap foam pieces 5mt glued to the winglet to ensure I was lined up nicely and I matched the inside curves as best I could. In retrospect maybe pour foam would be good here but the foam I have on hand tends to expand too much. I’ve microed the pieces on and after curing just added some foam wedges and dry micro to fill the gaps.
The final shape and size of these is still uncertain but I have an idea and after a clean up tomorrow I’ll draw a few lines. Certainly I think the plans lower winglets are really ugly.
