The canopy needs fresh air vents for the cabin. After a VERY long period of research I have the vents and I have the place. Now I need to install them. Here’s the position I’ve chosen. Its the simplest possible solution. Away from the instrument panel, no scat hoses or remote stuff, I just need some sort of inlet on the other side of the marked position.
The vents came from eBay and were on some small plane originally. I wanted something small and good quality. It really took a couple of years of looking to come up with these. I have four, I need two so I can play with them a bit.
I found this NACA template online. I do have a fancy NACA size template program BUT just making the .pdf 65% smaller gave almost the same dimensions as the spreadsheet sizing.
I cut them out and found a position I was happy with.
I marked out both sides and then checked that the distances from edges matched. As the canopy is close to centered it all seems to be working out.
This shows how I’ve chosen the curve for the NACA placements.
I’ve cut these freehand using a conical bit in a cordless dremel.
Here’s the other side. Its much better since this shot as I’ve gone past the rough stage to begin really shaping. I do have to get the air onto the inside of course and mount the vent. I’m not sure exactly how, but thats never been a problem that didn’t solve itself..
