Pic 1 are the wedges called out in the plans. This whole thing is from the Varieze days to fit one of those mounts. We have legacy measurements! My mount for an 0-360 type 1, as you see in pic 2, is from the Cozy Girrrls. As usual I went though a bit to arrive here. I wanted something tried and proven and they supply it.
I have to dry mount these engine mounts in just the right place then glass in the mounts and add a few bolts after cure. After playing around for a while I could see I’m in the ball park measurement wise. The right longeron is .2″ off to the right side which happened when I put the spar in but its otherwise all good. I’ll just make a wider spruce wedge on that side.
Today I thought I should check that the line I have in the center of the spar is indeed correct for setting out the mount. I still have the fine hole at the front seat where all the measurements for the spar, canard and winglets were triangulated to. I lined up this mark with the mark on the spar and another set of lines on bulkheads and at the nose.
First up with a laser and then using a long piece of thick aluminium after leveling the fuselage. It seems I’m pretty much Ok and have a line at the spar that is OK to use. Good stuff.
I played around for another hour or so with the mount. This is going to be like herding cats, getting the mounts in exactly the right place. Bring it on! This will be a biggie out of the way when its done.
