My current EZ needs about 3″ of pillows to get me to the right flight position so on this build I’m making a false floor which will give a little storage space or some room for electronics. Its not wide enough for remote radio and ADS-B boxes while still having close support for the pilot.
That said it may be a good spot for essential tools. Plans has a thigh rest and then a map space in that. All I’ve done is raise this area a few inches and so extended it.
First up was a cardboard template which I drew freehand and then cleaned up with french curves. It follows the original plans seat lines …just up a bit.
With the template sized I’ve done a single ply BID layup on 0.4″ R35 Divinycell. Pic 2 shows the second side, I did the first side yesterday.
Pic three is my second go at bending the same thickness foam for the seat floor. The wooden templates are off the paper one and I used the cutaway piece as the top half of the jig clamp. It isn’t quite staying to exact shape but it is getting the stress out of the bends and pretty close so far. I’m trying not to melt things with the heat gun, just a slight hint of brown. Tasty.
