First up is setting up the two NC12s which hold the counterweights and accept drives from the stick and autopilot servo to be in line together. This is in the Cozy plans and seems a good idea. I just used 5mt glue rather than bolts as I wanted everything lined up 100% correctly before making it permanent. Of course this meant over the next two weeks I did this step 4 or 5 times as the glue would fail with all my fiddling. Maybe it was 6 or 7….
The angle in the second pic I again got from the Cozy plans. Where this is set could meant that I would be unable to get full down elevator so I was interested in a temporary 5 mt glue set up for this too. ..and yes I must have also reglued this 5 or 6 times as I fiddled over time.
The third pic is setting the two elevators flat in relation to each other before bolts are set in place. Of course I’m just using the 5mt glue here as got to get really familiar with how its all done. I did glue an elevator to the boards the first time I did this to ensure it was flat. After a few goes I found the weights were just as good and a lot quicker with no clean up required. I had a lot of goes.
You can appreciate picking this one long piece up for trial fittings on the canard is a job to be very careful with… and after a few testing fits, the glue might give up. I got rather good at all this.
