Lots of thinking to prep this one. 18 plies of UND for each side and 18 plys of BID for each tab. That’s 108 pieces of glass. The UND I did in groups of three so thats 6 pieces per side. The BID I did one by one, peeling off each foil piece. Not a great idea in the end. I laid it out on a foil grid and cut with the ‘pizza cutter’ which works pretty well.
So lots of prep, sanding and of course exciting the surfaces with a quick sand, a clean up with acetone and pure epoxy on the leg to begin.
As I laid the glass it tended to slide down the tab and while I’m pretty sure I didn’t have any air, it was a mess keeping it all in place until I finally clamped the four points. I peel plied the edges to make it all tidy and get away from possible delam at the edges later.
Quite a challenging layup but worked out just OK in the end. It will be strong…I just want pretty as well as strong! It was easier doing the next big one on the other side.
