The oil check door install continues while I wait for welding to be completed and ordered fittings to arrive. This is my standby fill in job as it could be done at any time.
I opted for a 4 ply layup for the door flange.
The edges are transitioned with peel ply.
I did my best to get the door flush for this lip layup. I was slightly low in one corner but thats an easy fix. I really did try hard so I guess this is where my current skill levels are. Still with room for improvement.
The door came off fairly easily after I opened up a hole from the rear side.
I’ve gone for a .5″ lip. I might make it .4 in some places later. Being 4 plies it is nice and strong.
As you can see the oil cap is to the aft side with room to check an overflow bottle that will go in the forward corner. Did I plan this or was it a mistake with a happy ending? I will NEVER tell.
